PDF to Word — Editable Text, No Upload

Most of the time "convert PDF to Word" means one thing in practice: you need the words in something you can edit, because retyping three pages is not an option. That is what this does. The PDF is parsed in your browser, the text is recovered in proper reading order — columns separated, paragraphs intact — and written into a real .docx that opens in Word, LibreOffice, and Google Docs. What it does not do is rebuild the layout. Columns, tables, images, fonts and positioning are not reproduced, because no browser-side library reproduces them faithfully and a distorted document is worse than a plain one. If you need the original appearance preserved exactly, keep the PDF.

Editable, Not a Picture

The output holds real text in real paragraphs, so you can edit, search, and restyle it — not page images pasted into a document.

Honest About Layout

Columns, tables and images are not rebuilt, and the tool tells you before you convert rather than after you open the file.

100% Browser-Only

No upload and no server copy. The PDF is parsed and the .docx assembled in the tab — right for contracts, CVs and anything confidential.

Free, No Signup

No account, no page cap, no watermark, no trial limit on how many documents you convert.

!How It Works, Step by Step

1

Drop a PDF. It is parsed in your browser and its page count is shown — nothing is uploaded.

2

Optionally narrow to a page range: 1-5, a single page like 3, or a list like 1,3,5-7.

3

Leave "Reflow paragraphs" on so the text rewraps to the Word page instead of breaking where the PDF did.

4

Click Convert & download .docx. The Word file is built in the tab and saved to your device.

Technical FAQ

Does this keep the original PDF layout in Word?
No, and that is deliberate. It carries the text and the paragraph breaks. Columns are read in the right order but come out as ordinary paragraphs; tables, images, fonts and absolute positioning are not reproduced. Faithful layout conversion needs a full document engine, which does not exist in a browser — tools that claim it usually produce a document full of text boxes that is harder to edit than retyping. If the appearance matters more than the words, keep the PDF.
Will the Word file open in Microsoft Word?
Yes. The output is a standard .docx — an OOXML package with the same structure Word writes itself — so Word, LibreOffice Writer, Pages and Google Docs all open it. It contains styled paragraphs, optional page breaks between PDF pages, and document properties.
Can it convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Not into text, and it will not pretend otherwise. A scan is a picture of a document with no text layer, so there is nothing to carry across. Those pages are marked in the Word file with a note saying they were scanned images, rather than appearing as unexplained blank pages. Recovering the words would need OCR, which PDFGami does not do.
Is it safe to convert a confidential PDF to Word online?
On PDFGami, yes, because nothing is uploaded. The PDF is parsed with pdfjs and the .docx is zipped together in your browser. Open the developer tools network tab while converting — no request carries the file.
Why is my converted document missing the tables?
Because tables are not carried over. A PDF stores a table as lines and separately positioned text, with no record that it was ever a table. Rebuilding one means guessing which text belongs to which cell, and a wrong guess produces a document that looks right and reads wrong. The text inside the table is still there, as ordinary paragraphs.
What does "reflow paragraphs" change?
With it on, the lines of a paragraph are joined into one paragraph that rewraps to the width of the Word page — which is what you want for editing. With it off, every line of the PDF becomes its own line, preserving where the original broke. Leave it on unless the line breaks themselves are meaningful, as in poetry or code.
