Is a drawn signature on a PDF legally binding?

In most jurisdictions (US under ESIGN/UETA, EU under eIDAS as a "simple electronic signature"), a drawn signature on a PDF carries the same weight as a handwritten signature on paper for everyday agreements: leases, NDAs, employment offers, freelance contracts. For higher-stakes documents that require legal admissibility (notarized real estate transfers, wills in some jurisdictions), use a service that issues a certified digital signature with an identity-bound certificate. For everything else, a drawn signature embedded in the PDF is standard practice.

Is my drawn signature secure on this tool?

Yes. Your signature is drawn on an HTML5 canvas in your browser and embedded into the PDF locally via pdf-lib. Neither the signature image nor the PDF itself is ever transmitted across the internet — verify this yourself in the browser developer tools network tab.

Can I sign a PDF on my phone?

Yes. The signature pad works with touchscreens, so you can draw your signature with your finger on iOS Safari or Android Chrome. The PDF is parsed in mobile browser memory just like on desktop.

Can I reuse my signature?

Currently, signatures are created per session to ensure maximum security — nothing is stored across visits. Local secure storage for reusable signatures is on the roadmap.

Can I sign password-protected PDFs?

Encrypted PDFs need to be unlocked before signing. Open the PDF in your reader (Adobe Reader, macOS Preview), remove the password, then drop the unlocked file into the signer. We never see the password because everything happens on your device.

Can I add a typed signature instead of a drawn one?

Right now PDFGami supports drawn signatures only. Typed-font signatures are less personalized and historically less recognizable, which is why we prioritized the drawn workflow first.
