How the cut works
The shaded selection is what disappears; the blue audio before and after it is joined sample to sample, with no gap. Play around the cut plays the few seconds either side so you can hear the join before saving.
Making the cut inaudible
A cut is cleanest in a pause: start the selection just after the last word before the mistake and end it just before the next good word. Cutting in the middle of a sound can leave a click. Zoom in on the problem by listening with Play around the cut and nudging a focused handle with the arrow keys — a tenth of a second at a time, or a whole second with Shift.
More than one section
Each pass removes one section. To remove several, save the result and open it again, or add the same file twice and give each copy a different cut — the tracks are joined in order. Trimming the start and end works in the same editor: switch to Keep selection.
Step by step
- Drop the recording. A section in the middle is selected for removal.
- Drag the handles onto the part you want gone; use the arrow keys for fine adjustment.
- Play around the cut to check the join.
- Pick a format and save.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove a part from the middle of an audio file?
Drop the file here, drag the handles around the part you want removed, keep Cut out selection on, and save. The audio before and after the selection is joined with no gap.
Will there be a gap or a click at the cut?
No gap is added. A click is possible if the cut falls in the middle of a sound, so cut inside a pause; Play around the cut lets you check before saving.
Can I remove several sections?
One per pass. Save the result and open it again for the next one, or add the same file twice with a different cut on each.
Which formats does it work with?
It opens MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AAC, WebM and the soundtrack of MP4 or MOV videos, and saves MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC or OGG.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser; the recording never leaves your device.
